The long awaited comic from Skottie Young (Rocket Raccoon, Wizard of Oz) has hit the stands! Bringing his talent to Image Comics with I Hate Fairyland, his take on Dark Fairy tales will definitely make you rethink your take on Fairy Tales!

In this issue we are introduced to Gertie. At 6, she loves playing pretend, and dreams of being whisked away to a magical land where all her dreams become reality… until she actually is. Once in Fairyland, she’s meets Queen Cloudia, who tells her she can get home by finding the key (which should only take two shakes of a bogglezig, or a day for us non-fairy folk). 27 years later, Gertie is still looking, but now she’s a bitter old lady trapped in a 6 year old’s body who’s become public enemy #1 on the Queen’s list!

I’m big fan of Skottie Young’s art, so I was pretty stoked to grab this issue; I was not disappointed. Although this is a book about Fairyland, this isn’t a kids issue by any means. The colors pop and make you feel like you’re reading an issue set in Candy Land, the artwork and detail are just what you come to expect from Skottie and the story is pretty funny.

I read a comment that someone wrote stating that “The dark fairy tale story has been done to death”, and it probably has, but this comic puts a different twist on that, and I say pick it up and read it before you judge!

You can find this, and other Image Comics, at your local and digital comic retailer.
