This year at C2E2, I Play Games brought us a pretty awesome Street Fighter V tournament, which consisted of 35 contestants all battling it out for a special edition comic, an exclusive t-shirt & lanyard, and the title of being 2016′s C2E2 Street Fighter champion!
Street Fighter V, the newest game in the franchise that was released back in February, is powered by Unreal Engine 4 technology and brought to you through a strategic partnership between Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Capcom. The game boasts stunning visuals that depict the next generation of World Warriors in unprecedented detail, while exciting and accessible battle mechanics deliver endless fighting fun that both beginners and veterans can enjoy, and was released exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
This tournament was serious business and brought out the best of the best, some with their own controller. One contestant – a gentleman named Corey – was looking defend his 19 game winning streak (unfortunately, that streak ended). The tournament started with an elimination round in the gaming area of the event, and proceeded to a semi-final stage, and ended with the head-to-head final competition on the C2E2 main stage Saturday night.
I Play Games, founded by Kevin Fair, brings tournaments to conventions and events around the world, including their weekly tournaments right here in Chicago at their GUI Show. Be sure to check them out to see when they are bringing a tournament to a city near you, and we look forward to seeing them next year at C2E2!
