Ink Blots: Sony E3 Edition


Sony’s press event wisely stayed more focused on its upcoming catalog of games than in previous year’s showings. Head past the break for details on everything they featured!

  • Beyond: Two Souls- Ellen Paige is starring in Quantic Dream’s new incredible Heavy Rain followup. Graphically, The game is a considerable step above Heavy Rain. Quantic Dream has really nailed conveying emotion in their game engine. It looks like there is more of an emphasis on action this time around and the main character seems to have some sort of latent powers. This is definitely one to watch.
  • PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale shown- We got a chance to check out a live gameplay demo of Sony’s Smash Brothers-eske title as well as learn of  two new characters: Nathan Drake and Bioshock’s Big Daddy were officially unveiled as playable. Also, the game will be on PS Vita and utilize crossplay between both versions!
  • Playstation Plus bolstered by new games available for download LBP2, Infamous 2 and Saint’s Row (starting tomorrow) as well as more to come in the following months.
  • PS1 Classics on Vita- promised before launch without a firm date, the Vita will finally be able to play all those PSN PSOne games his summer.
  • New Video Services for Vita Youtube, Hulu and Crackle coming to the handheld soon.
  • New Vita Games: Call of Duty Black ops: Declassified for Vita & Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation announced. Aside from many of the cross play titles , there weren’t that many other Vita specific titles shown. Sony needs to do all it can to help the Vita gain more momentum if it want’s it’s newest console to succeed.
  • New Assassin’s Creed 3 Footage- Different from the footage of the game shown at Microsoft’s presser, this footage focused on some of the game’s stunning naval combat. Truly top notch visuals and new gameplay has definitely cemented this game on many collective radars.
  • Far Cry 3- In keeping with surprise Ubisoft announcements, Far Cry 3 was revealed to have a separate 4 player co-op campaign as well as the preexisting single player and multiplier competitive modes.
  • New PS Move Games: Sports Champions 2, Little Big Planet: Karting were briefly shown.
  • Wonderbook for PS3: Wonderbook uses augmented augmented reality and the PlayStation Eye to bring storybooks to life. J.K. Rowling partnership announced for the game/book  Book of Spells, which allows players to practice spells from the world of Harry Potter.
  • PlayStation Suite Updated- The service formerly known as PlayStation Suite for android and tablets now named Playstation Mobile. More developers have been added and PlayStation certified games coming soon. HTC on-board as first non-Sony hardware manufacturer to support PlayStation Mobile
  • God of War Ascension single player shown for the first time- Kratos has a new power that allows him to manipulate time for combat and gameplay. The demo that was shown was full of all of the gory fighting and epic action that the series is known for. Kratos returns to the PS3 on March 12th 2013
  • The Last of Us- DAMN. Just….. DAMN Naughty Dog might have just won E3. It looks just that good. Naughty Dog has taken what they’ve learned making the Uncharted sereis of games and used it to make an M rated experience that must be seen to be believed. This is easily one of the most impressive games to be shown at the event, period.
