Fan Favorite DC Comics Franchise/Animated Television Series From Warner Bros. Animation Set to Make Videogame Debut in a Multiplayer Action RPG

Little Orbit, a worldwide game publisher, announced today that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the Young Justice: Legacy video game set to ship in early 2013 for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Nintendo’s Wii(TM) system, and the Nintendo DS(TM) hand held system.

New episodes of the Warner Bros. Animation series Young Justice will air beginning Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network as part of DC Nation, the network’s brand-new one-hour block of exclusive kids’ television programming and shorts based on DC Comics characters. In Young Justice, teenage heroes Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis are tasked by the Justice League to act as their covert operations team. Armed with superior skills, weaponry and powers, the team must do battle against a wide array of villains from the DC Universe while trying to prove to themselves, and to their superhero mentors, that they too have what it takes to be a hero. Their journey is further complicated when they face the many unpredictable obstacles that arise in their path from inexperience and youth.

In Young Justice: Legacy fans can look forward to an original storyline set in between Seasons 1 and 2 of the television series, written in collaboration with show writers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti. The game is packed with fan favorite playable characters, cameo appearances by popular Justice League heroes and villains, and includes online multiplayer as well as local multiplayer modes.

Skyrim is the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series. The first game of the series was released in 1994, so there was no way to catch up on 1-4 before the big meeting. Regardless, I jumped in head first to Elder Scrolls V. Actually, I didn’t jump in right away. The evening that I purchased the game, Archie and I actually had to record a podcast. This left the game in the hands of my lovely wife Dolores and Archie’s lady, Jacquinete. Neither one of them made an appearance in the studio that evening. Dinner went uneaten until Bill & Sarah Jones stopped by for a friendly visit, and all were forced to do something more readily social. These signs should have alerted me that there something was special about this game.

After dropping Archie off that evening/morning, I returned home to find Dolores still on the couch playing Skyrim. Now, by this time, she was usually in bed and had sawed several logs. This time, she was enthralled by the open-ended world of Bethesda’s latest release. Ultimately, I was allowed a turn, and I began to make my own character. I created a Redguard by the name of Kendal. (I don’t know why I named him Kendal. I’m bad at naming my in-game characters, but that’s a story for another time.)

Minutes turned to hours, and my wife fell asleep on my shoulder. The sun was coming up, and I still had to head south to meet the guys in a few hours. It had been a long time since I’d stayed up all night playing a game; possibly since the Metal Gear Solid days. I decided to grab a few Z’s of my own.

I awoke to my wife, once again, playing Skyrim. At this point, it didn’t have it’s hooks in quite as deep as it would eventually, so I gathered my notes, and headed out. At the time, I was championing Batman: Arkham City as my game of the year. In my book, it’d hit all the right notes, and most importantly, was fun. As we each went down our list of ten choices, surprisingly Skyrim was everyone’s runner up. That is, everyone except for Archie who put it right at the top. We had no other choice but to reward it the game of the year title.

Fast forward two weeks, and my wife and I were still playing Skyrim. It wasn’t non-stop but it might as well have been. Thinking back, I don’t think I’ve ever been so loyal to one game for so long. At least, I’ve never been loyal to one game as long as I could afford other games. Things started to suffer. As I’m sure our loyal readers/listeners have noticed, there hasn’t been a new podcast up in quite some time. The amount of posts has took a pretty substantial hit as well. It’s unfair to blame that completely on Skyrim, but it’s got something to do with it, definitely.

What I want you to take away from this is I’m not blaming video games for being lazy. No, not in the least bit. That takes years of practice. What I am saying is that Skyrim is like dangling Pop Rocks in front of a diabetic candy lover. I would make a joke about Skooma here, but that’s just underlining the problem. Now that I’ve gotten this off of my chest, hopefully you all can do me a favor and shame me into productivity once again.

C2E2′s Lance Fensterman sent us an email today announcing that Neal Adams and Chris Hardwick will be at this year’s show. This comes after the recent news that Joe Kubert and Anthony Daniels (C3PO) will be in attendance as well. Other guests scheduled are Chicago’s own Onrie Kompan, Marc Silvestri, Art Baltazar, Ben Templesmith, and many more comic celebrities from around the world. The show runs from April 13th-15th, and we’ll keep you posted as more guests are revealed.

During today’s investor call, THQ finally nailed down a release month for the next game in its apocalyptic action series. Fans will be able to take control of Death itself in Darksiders II this June. It won’t be long before we’ll get to see what manner of shenanigans that other rider of the apocalypse was up to while War was out doing his thing.

Maybe this is what all that 2012 excitement about the apocalypse was for all along? Maybe those Mayan calendar guys were just huge gamers. I imagine there’s a Darksiders II pre-order written on a tablet in a cave somewhere that’s just waiting to be dug up…

For some reason, someone decided it would be great to start a controversy by comparing two different types of first person shooters, Battlefield 3 (BF3) and Modern Warfare 3 (MW3). These two games may appear similar because they are both first person shooters, but both games play completely different online. It depends on the gameplay mode, but for the most part here are the major and minor differences I noticed. 

In MW3, the player, depending on the game mode, has to run and shoot. If they stay too long in one spot such as a building, a player will eventually kill them. The entire strategy of camping is easier to perform in MW3 than in BF3. In Battlefield 3, the player is limited to where they can hide and camp; especially because of the realism with the damage is more drastic. Players in BF3 can destroy buildings and walls raising the difficulty to camp from a building.  Whereas, in MW3 the player has an easier method of hiding since users cannot blow up entire buildings.  Having the option to use certain perks enabled will determine life or death in MW3.

Another major difference between MW3 and BF3 is the fact that, in BF3, users can ride in helicopters, jets and tanks. This not only adds to the realism but it expands on working together as a team. Transporting an entire team in a chopper from one area to another really makes a difference in both strategy and gameplay. The perks in MW3 do help to combat enemy forces, but at the same time it does take away from the strategy of the game. It’s not very easy to dodge a bomb falling from an airplane.

After playing both games, I can say the sound is a tad more realistic in BF3. Hearing rockets and bullets fly by is awesome in BF3. The ringing of the ears after an explosion also adds value to the overall experience. This was absent in MW3.

Graphically both games look great, but in a side-by-side comparison, the Frostbite engine really takes the cake. The realism is definitely present with BF3. Playing the maps online in MW3 gave me the impression that this was no different than Modern Warfare 2. The cities the maps were based in were different, but overall, the game felt no different than playing Modern Warfare 2. The map size is also large for BF3. It’s great to have a ton of room to move, but at times it can become difficult for new players since it’s easy to get lost.

If one was to compare the gameplay with these two games, I think it’s safe to say that the gameplay in MW3 plays similar an arcade shooter game, whereas, the gameplay in BF3 feels more like a Counter Strike game with vehicles.  Regardless, both games are fun to play. For me the fun factor was higher when playing Battlefield 3 online.

This is a friendly reminder that 3DS Owners who purchased the system before August 12th are entitled to download 10 free Game Boy Advance titles today as a part of Nintendo’s “Ambassador Program.” The games are: F-Zero Maximum Velocity, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Wario Land 4, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Metroid: Fusion, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.

Getting your Games
So Nintendo didn’t exactly make getting to the games a walk in the park. Users must first enter the e-shop application, navigate all the way to the left and select the “Settings/Other” option, then “Your Downloads.” Once there, scroll down and users should see the 10 GBA titles among other downloads and under the original 10 NES games that were given out. Hit the download option next to each game and the download should start right away.

1. From the Nintendo 3DS HOME menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon.
2. Scroll left and select “Settings / Other.”

It looks like Marvel Studios and director Patty Jenkins have decided to part ways. According to the article, when asked about her departure, Jenkins cited “creative differences.” Jenkins would have been Marvel’s first female director to helm a film for the studio. She also marks the second director to bow out of the project beginning with Kenneth Branagh stating that he had no desire to return to the franchise.

Not to be outdone, Nintendo has also updated its 3DS a few days ahead of its December 8th deadline. The system now boasts a new option to take 3D video as well as photos, a new “Nintendo Zone” app, Accomplishments (Think Achievements or Trophies) for the Mii Plaza and a sequel to the system’s addictive  Mii plaza minigame, Find Mii 2 (complete with more hats in tow.)  Users should be prompted to download the update from the main menu once connected to the internet.

For many, SSX Tricky was the high point of EA’s extreme downhill snowboarding the series. EA took what was already a pretty good launch game for the PS2 and pulled out all the stops, making it one of the most beloved games of fans to date. So, the pairing of the newest trailer for the game with a remixed version of Run-D.M.C.’s signature “It’s Tricky ” track by Pretty Lights definitely calls back many fond memories of the series. Sharp eyes will even spot a few familiar (yet obscured) faces. Hit play and let the waves of nostalgia wash over you.

After a big opening weekend for “Immortals,” director Tarsem Singh stated his intentions for a possible follow-up project:

“I love Samurai Jack. I would love to direct that. It’s brilliant. The speed, it embraces where it comes from. I find that comic strip films are halfway grounded. They don’t play my chord. But I love Samurai Jack. I love the animation” says Tarsem.

The stylized action of Samurai Jack would be a great fit for the director. According to the article, the rights recently reverted back to Cartoon Network, so anything can happen.

Capcom’s popular mystery/courtroom drama series Phoenix Wright is getting a full on big budget film in the land of the rising sun. While movies based on games don’t have the best of reputations, based on what we’ve seen so far, getting increasingly harder to find any objections with what they’re doing here. Directed by Takashi Miike, who’s other efforts include Ichii the Killer & IZO, it’s already evident from the trailers that the film has completely nailed the look of the games. It remains to be seen how well the series trademark humor and and tension will also make the leap to the big screen as well.

May is so very very far away…

It seems like it’s been a year since we confirmed/debunked this film with Darren Aranofsky attached to direct, but it’s still in the cards. While still promoting his new film Real Steel, Hugh Jackman continues to champion sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine aka “The Wolverine.” While it’s now Aranofsky free, Jackman definitely wants this one to have a more mature feel:

“There’s such great temptation to make an R-rated Wolverine. I’ve always felt that. I know a lot of fans would like that. I totally get it. If there was ever a superhero that was going to be R-rated, it’s Wolverine.”
